HER Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and Mr Dennis Wilson have visited Hillston, Murrin Bridge, Lake Cargelligo, Coolamon, Junee, Wagga Wagga and West Wyalong Lake Cowal this week from Wednesday, 26 February through to Saturday, 1 March 2025 in a sweeping tour of the region.

The Governor, who is no stranger to western NSW, has been a popular figure since taking office especially within the Riverina and Central West where she has visited a number of times during her tenure.

“Dennis and I were so happy to be hearing from local people about their achievements and initiatives, including the challenges they face. These communities really do ‘punch above their weight’ in areas such as agriculture, land care, manufacturing, and community health and well-being.”

In Hillston, the Governor and Mr Wilson visited Mitolo Family Farms, bringing quality produce to Australian families for over half a century. They also heard from Carrathool Shire Councillors, the Hillston Creative Council and Hillston Lions Club members.

At Murrin Bridge, the Governor and Mr Wilson took time to learn about the Local Aboriginal Land Council’s care of Country and view the activities of Murrin Bridge Pre-School.

After meeting with staff and volunteers at Lake Cargelligo’s Multipurpose Health Service, the Governor and Mr Wilson toured Durotank, a leading manufacturer of bulk fuel storage tanks, before joining young people involved in Down the Track Youth Enterprises’ programs.

Closer to home in West Wyalong, the Governor and Mr Wilson met representatives of local patronage organisations at a Community Afternoon Tea. They also visited West Wyalong District Hospital and West Wyalong High School and attended a Bland Shire Council Civic Reception and Dinner held in their honour.

Their visit to Lake Cowal also included an opportunity to learn more about the work of staff and volunteers at Lake Cowal Conservation Centre with local councillor, Mal Carnegie, and a tour of Evolution Cowal Gold Operations.

A tour of artisan cheesemaker Coolamon Cheese, with representatives from the Junee community, preceded a meeting with Junee Shire Councillors and a Vice Regal Community Reception, hosted by the Governor and Mr Wilson, in Junee. Viewing the collections of Junee Broadway Museum was also part of their packed four-day program.

Rounding out the visit tomorrow, the Governor and Mr Wilson will ‘shoot some hoops’ in Wagga Wagga with young basketball athletes from the Southern Sports Academy.
