WITH only 70 days until a federal election has to be held, the Central West Greens have officially announced Trish Frail as their candidate for the federal seat of Parkes at the upcoming election.

Frail, a Councillor on Brewarrina Shire Council and a passionate advocate for her community, is a Ngemba woman who calls Brewarrina home. She is committed to making a positive impact in her electorate, focusing on environmental sustainability, local empowerment, and responsible governance.

Frail, who has become a well-respected figure in her region, has already made a name for herself in the community. She is currently leading a campaign to have the Biami Ngunnhu Fish Traps, the oldest man-made structure in the world, placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In the past, she successfully spearheaded a campaign against the proposed establishment of a nuclear waste facility in the Brewarrina Shire, highlighting her firm stance on environmental issues.

“Parkes is in need of a change,” said Frail following her announcement as the Greens candidate.

“We don’t need a local member from a party pushing the nuclear fantasy as a solution for our energy needs. We need someone who cares for the whole electorate, for our environment, and for our future generations.”

Frail’s vision for Brewarrina is to create a progressive community that benefits all residents, with a focus on bringing new business and enterprise opportunities. Her own experience as a local business owner further informs her approach, as she opened a café in 2021 that employs five local staff members. She believes in creating local employment opportunities while ensuring the voice of the community is heard at all levels of government.

“People in my community want strong action on the cost of living and the climate crisis,” Frail said.

“They want a council that represents their values, and that includes transparent decision-making and accountability. I will ensure the smaller towns in the Shire, such as Weil and Goodooga, are not overlooked as well.”

Unlike the major parties, Frail is proud to stand with the Greens, a party that is funded solely by people, not corporate donations.

“The Greens are powered by people like you,” she added, emphasising the grassroots nature of her campaign.

As she takes on the challenge of representing the diverse Parkes electorate, Frail is determined to offer an alternative to the traditional political parties, with a focus on environmental sustainability, local economic development, and community engagement. Her dedication to her constituents and commitment to progressive change make her a candidate to watch in the upcoming federal election. She won’t have much time to get acquainted with them either.
