ON 29th and 30th March 2025 the Wyalong Museum and local Police Officer David Whiter, will be holding a Gaol Escape weekend and police history exhibition.
There will be two tours per day starting at 9:30am and 1:30pm. The tour will start at the Wyalong Museum Court room where you will learn about the various crimes and court cases involving murders, kidnapping, and bushranger armed robberies that occurred within the area. You will also see the charge sheets and photographs of the escapees and Bush rangers.
Various police related items from the mid 1800’s onwards will be on display such as uniforms, badges, leg irons, and equipment used by police back in the day.
Also on display will be a piece of Australian movie memorabilia in the form of a Victorian police tunic and helmet used in the 1970 movie of Ned Kelly starring Mick Jagger! Participants will also get a tour of the old Wyalong Gaol.
“Come see where prisoners of the day were locked up. Get a feel of prison life by walking around the cells and exercise yard. Don’t worry everyone is guaranteed to get bail!” joked local police officer, David Whiter.
“The tour will conclude with morning or afternoon tea back at the museum.”
Numbers are limited to 15 persons per tour at a cost of $15 per person, including morning or afternoon tea. Tour duration is approximately two hours. Bookings can be made through Diane Redman on 0428723118.
After the weekend, the exhibition will be on display for a couple of months should anyone be interested to view the display at a later date.
