BACK TO BARMEDMAN...

It was a bustling Barmedman on the long weekend, the likes of which, according to many returned visitors, hasn’t been seen since at least 1974 when thousands came back to celebrate 100 years of the town.

This year it’s 150 years and there were no less than two time capsules dug up - one from 2000, and the other from 1974. There were some emotional scenes when the 1974-year packages of letters and keepsakes were handed out to family members, placed in the big capsule 50 years ago by relatives, many of whom are no longer with us.

The West Wyalong Town Band were there at the event, and in town and the sports grounds there were hot rods, the tractor pull, vintage cars, and even burnout kings and sheep shearing.

To get an idea of just how bustling Barmedman was back in the 1960s and '70s, one man told us it was hard to find a parking space on the main street in the '60s and another man who left school in 1979 said there were 88 students at the school then - a far cry from the five students today - very interesting.

The Clydesdales rugby league team, who won the Premiership in 1974, were also there too.

Here are some of the pictures from the weekend, with the event also including a celebration dinner, and unveiling of plaques at the refurbished Mineral Pool, plus the Beard Competition.

Well done to all involved in organising and running the event – it was flawless.
